Schools CIO lacks anti-Abbott plan

Stephen Wilson, chief information officer of the NSW Department of Education and Training does not have a Plan B for making computers available to state school students if the Federal Opposition makes good its threat to pull the plug on the Digital Education Revolution if elected to Government.

Lenovo goes back to school for big blue

After a year of doling out claret coloured netbook computers to NSW high-school kids Lenovo is about to start issuing this year's big blue model, and the company's global CEO Yang Yuanqing will be in Sydney this morning to witness the start of the rollout.

NSW minister of education Verity Firth announced on Friday 20 November an agreement with Telstra that she promised would "revolutionise the delivery of digital education to all public schools and TAFE institutes," but neither she, nor Telstra were keen to elaborate.  This article has been updated - see at end for additional information.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd came to power on top of a raft of election promises, one of which included laptops for high school students. While the deployment was not without controversy thousands upon thousands have now been distributed in NSW. Yet, forum postings reveal students are using them for game playing and online chat right in front of oblivious teachers.
